PURPOSE STATEMENT The purpose of Worldwide Tentmakers, Inc. is to assist local churches in the promotion, preparation, and placement of self-supporting witnesses worldwide. A tentmaker is a dedicated Christian man or woman living and working under non-religious auspices for the express purpose of using their secular position to witness worldwide for Jesus Christ. This biblical strategy was used by the Apostle Paul and his co-laborers, Priscilla and Aquila, who made tents to pay expenses while their primary goal was to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 18:3). “Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities and to them that were with me,” wrote the Apostle Paul in Acts 20:34. Thanks to today’s international job market, tentmaking opportunities exist for dedicated Christians with missionary hearts, marketable skills and experiences, and a desire to make Christ known where He is not known (Romans 10:14). Tentmakers work alongside spiritually hungry people who often have never heard the Gospel. They are often able to enter “closed” countries no longer issuing missionary visas. Tentmaking is a unique and effective way for Christians to take the Gospel to the billions of people living in restricted or closed countries. In countries where there are full-time missionaries, tentmakers assist the missionaries in their work. In closed countries, tentmakers are the missionaries. Worldwide employment in business, government, and industry opens the door to new experiences and adventures. These assignments often provide sufficient financial compensation and career opportunities. However, for the Christian, an international job allows them to play an important role in carrying out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19, 20). |
